The City Attorney's goal is to minimize or prevent litigation against the City and its agencies, boards, and commissions and to enforce the City's rights and remedies when appropriate.
The Office of the City Attorney only represents the City of Gallatin, and its agencies, officials and employees, on matters of public business, and does not provide legal advice to members of the public.

Responsibilities
Functions of the City Attorney's Office include:- Provides legal advice to the Mayor, City Council Members, officials, boards, commissions, and City departments regarding legal and regulatory matters of concern to the City and its operations
- Works with other City departments and divisions on legal matters to defend the City from legal actions brought against it, initiates lawsuits, code enforcement compliance, collection of monies owed to the City, and eminent domain proceedings
- Drafts and reviews ordinances, resolutions, contracts, bonds, deeds, and other legal documents as requested by the City Council or other officials
- Prosecutes violations of the Gallatin Municipal Code
- Investigates and handles all claims
- Handles all insurance and Risk Management
Risk Management
Risk Management administers and manages the City's Workers' Compensation, General Liability and Property Insurance. Risk Management serves as a resource to City Departments on issues of loss prevention and control. All claims involving the City of Gallatin are handled by the Risk Management Division.Additional Documents
